Developing A Successful Fund-Raising
Campaign
The feasibility study can be an important,
if not critical, component of every pre-fund raising campaign plan.
The feasibility study involves a series of confidential one-on-one interviews,
conducted by a consultant and generally directed to major gift prospects.
A primary goal of the study is to learn the perceptions of the prospects
toward the institution and the degree to which they might participate,
both financially and as volunteers.
Candidates for interviews include: members of the board, past major
contributors and potential new donors. The feasibility study seeks to
accomplish the following objectives:
- Cultivate key constituents in preparation for their
eventual solicitation.
- Provide select individuals with the opportunity to
feel valuable to the organization.
- Offer the individuals a chance to express dissatisfaction
without direct exposure
- Test the marketplace for available dollar support and
leadership
- Provide the opportunity to proceed with a campaign for
a reduced goal if the study indicates that the desired goal isn't
deemed possible
- Provide a method of measuring the overall health of
the institution in areas which affect its ability to raise campaign
support
